Breast Augmentation

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Duluth, GA

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that enhances the size of the breasts through the insertion of saline or silicone gel implants. This treatment can also change the shape of the breasts. Breasts naturally change in size and shape as a result of pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and other natural life events. They often lose perkiness as a result of these changes as well. Breast augmentation allows you to reconstruct your breasts so that they look younger and healthier.

Dr. R. Morgan Davoudi provides breast augmentation procedures at the Atlantic Center for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery in Duluth. Dr. Davoudi leads his practice with a focus on quality care and a passion for patient satisfaction. For more information, call (770) 418-1234 or contact us online.

About Breast Augmentation

While there was once a stigma associated with breast implants, breast augmentation has become one of the most common forms of aesthetic plastic surgery for women. (1) You can come into our Atlanta practice without fear of judgment or rejection for wanting to enhance your breast size. In fact, you may find that you hold your head higher and feel more confident once you receive this procedure.

The breast augmentation procedure involves Dr. Davoudi making incisions in discreet locations around your breast. The exact location of these incisions will depend on the size and shape of the implants that you have chosen to receive. There are many different sizes and shapes of breast implants. The two main shapes are round and teardrop. Round implants work well to increase the size and outward projection of the breasts. They are also convenient in that they can move around freely within the breast without changing their appearance. (2) Teardrop implants provide a more natural-looking breast contour. Silicone breast implants are the most popular, but he may use saline implants, depending on the details of your case. Dr. Davoudi will help you determine the best implant size to meet your needs and ensure the results look as natural as possible.

Preparation

Your preparation instructions will be custom-tailored to your unique medical needs. Our goal is to ensure that you are well prepared for surgery and for the important process of healing that comes afterwards. We may ask you to change certain aspects of your prescription medicine intake. Before you receive your breast implants, you should maintain a steady weight, as changes in weight may affect your aesthetic results in relation to your treatment plan. If you smoke, you should quit for a period of time before and after your surgery to avoid complications and improve your ability to heal. You should also avoid substances that will thin your blood and increase the chances of excess bleeding during surgery. These include anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen, certain herbal supplements, and vitamin E. You may be disoriented after your surgery due to the anesthesia, so be sure to schedule a ride home from our facilities on the day of your surgery. You should also prepare your home for recovery, making the environment safe and easy to maneuver within with your temporarily limited mobility.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

When you come in for your breast augmentation procedure, we will administer general anesthesia to prevent discomfort during surgery. Dr. Davoudi will begin by making the necessary incisions. He will determine the best location for the incision, depending on your body and the implants that you have chosen. Incision options include:

  • Nipple area
  • Armpit
  • Lower breast fold area

These locations each work better for different implant sizes and types, and these qualities will be considered in relation to the avoidance of visible scarring. The exact location for the incision will have been determined during your initial consultation after a thorough examination of your breasts and a discussion of your expectations. Dr. Davoudi will then insert the implants and close up the incisions. We will monitor you as the anesthesia wears off. Then, when you feel comfortable, you can go home.

Recovery

After surgery, you will wear a gauze dressing along with a support bra or elastic bandage. Our staff members will give clear instructions on caring for your breasts as they heal, and you will receive medication for pain and the prevention of infection.

You can expect to take up to two weeks off work. Avoid physical exertion for approximately three weeks. Everyone heals at a different rate, so the recovery time may vary. Allowing yourself the time to heal properly will ensure that your results are optimal.

Results

You may experience swelling around your treatment area for up to six months after your breast augmentation procedure. Until swelling resolves, you will not be able to see the final aesthetic results of your surgery. However, you will be able to notice the overall transformation of the size and shape of your breasts in the meantime.

FAQ

Is breast augmentation surgery risky?

Due to advances in technology in the surgical field, breast augmentation surgery is now safer and more effective than ever. All cosmetic surgeries come with the risk of infection, especially if instructions for care of the incision site are not followed after surgery. Dr. Davoudi will go over all potential risks during your initial consultation. For your safety, all surgeries are completed through outpatient surgical centers attached to hospital facilities.

What if my breast implants rupture?

Rupturing of breast implants is not a medical emergency, though it should be dealt with as soon as possible. Leaving a ruptured implant in for too long can cause abnormal scar tissue around the breast.

Can you be too old to receive breast implants?

Many patients in their forties and fifties have received successful breast augmentation surgeries. The average age for breast augmentation patients is thirty. If you have concerns about your age, we can discuss this topic at your consultation.

Can you still breastfeed after receiving breast implants?

While receiving breast implants poses some risk for breastfeeding in the future, it is not a feature of the procedure. Most patients are able to breastfeed despite having breast implants.
